Old Fashioned’s in October – Returning to an old friend

by KeithP on October 27, 2011

Short and sweet, that’s the name of today’s game.  Coming off of three days sans whiskey in an Old Fashioned and Old Fashioned’s in October takes a little round about of sorts, and mixes things up nicely.  What do you get when you pair our trusty old friends of bonded applejack, bourbon and Islay in an Old Fashioned frame work … thy name is the North Garden.

Created by Jason Littrell at NYC’s Death & Co. and Dram, the drink is a perfect example of flavor combining of spirits.  It is almost universal that when I’m sitting at the D&C bar and craving a drink with Islay that such requests will be filled by a North Garden being placed in front of my eager palate.  We have so enjoyed this drink that we previously profiled it in these award winning pages and find ourselves mixing one up at least every month or so (give or take an odd one).  This drink is a perfect marriage of bold flavors with the slightest touch of sweetness to bind it all together.  Applejack is the clear support in this house with the bourbon lending a calming warmness to our abode while the smoky, peaty goodness of the Islay is present, but in no way dominate.

Grab your bottles dear readers and start mixing one of these little beauties up … you will not be sorry.
