Coming off a pretty trying couple of weeks and looking for a little, well, from some imbibing inspiration and I turned to an often reviewed source by me … the Cocktail Virgin/Slut (also know as Frederic). Read by me on a “several times basis” throughout any given week, Frederic’s site is awesome — great analysis, fantastic recipes and just an all around great read. I must also send my thanks to Frederic for early on providing comments on my posts and helping me either through such comments or through his own posts to focus my writings.
So then it was in a recent exchange that based on a question by me for recommendations relating to mezcal-based drinks Frederic recommend several and over the past few days I have made two (mezcal is awesome and given my recent work travails, more on this later, these were just what I needed). The Little Branch Cocktail was a nice, somewhat spicy tasting drink that reminded me in many ways of the Penicilina. Tart, refreshing and nicely balanced this drink would be good in the warm weather drink category. The clear winner of the two selections was the Zocalo, a fantastically calming drink. There is great balance in this drink with the mezcal and the syrup coming together to create a nice one-two punch of vegetal and spice flavors and the sweetness from the syrup and drying nature of the Dolin really blending perfectly into the support role. Just perfect and frankly, just what I needed.
Thanks a ton again to Frederic for the inspiration and for the continued guidance on my blogging adventures.
